Paula Morris has a great story in her collection ‘Forbidden Cities’ about Auckland’s inorganic rubbish collection time. I was looking for it in my bookshelf, but it’s gotten out of control and I’ve started double-shelving my books. Don’t get any ideas — I’m not putting them out on the street.

I have a sofa exactly like that.
I love the inorganics! One time I went out scavenging with a mental ‘shopping list’ of what I wanted to find – an old leather school satchel, some mugs or china, a religious icon picture and a chest of drawers that could be transformed into a new kitchen bench…and I managed to find all of it, despite it being quite a specific shopping list!
