The comment I got that puzzled me most was “I kept thinking, wow, I can’t believe Mike wrote this!”
I took it to mean that the manuscript was of such unparalleled genius that she was astonished to know the author personally. But there was also the underlying suggestion that, knowing me, she would have been surprised to learn I could write my name in the dirt with a stick.
In later years, I realized the manuscript was nothing special, so now I lean towards that second interpretation. It’s what makes me the humble, loveable guy I am today.
Very funny analysis. At least though it can be modified. Sometimes I do a painting and then realise something is wrong. If it is in oils there is a chance of redemption, but watercolour usually means it is consigned to the recycle bin.
