Record store

14/04/2011

Apparently it’s Record Store Day on Saturday – so maybe you should visit one before they cease to exist! Caren posted a poignant link of all the closing down record stores.

Thanks to those of you who commented on my last post in order to win a book. It’s so lovely to kind of meet you! You still have one more day to comment if you want to win a copy of my book, Dead People’s Music.

Soft Boil

08/04/2011

Of course it’s ridiculous getting a Type 1 diabetic to make sweets — I go into shock. I do, however, have three copies of my book, ‘Dead People’s Music’, to give away. If you live in New Zealand, leave a comment introducing yourself, and I will pick some lucky winners to send the books to next Friday.

If you live in Auckland, the Gladstone School Gala is on this Sunday, between 10 and 2. If you come at 11, you might find me on the drinks stand.

All about my father (abridged)

02/04/2011

An 8-page comic book is hardly enough to describe a 63-year-old life, but it’s about as much as I can manage in a Saturday afternoon!

Saint Patrick’s Day

17/03/2011

I only ever remember this incident on Saint Patrick’s day. The rest of the year it is lost to me. Talking of true stories, I am telling a story at TAPAC, Western Springs, Auckland, this Sunday night at 7.30 pm. $10 and all proceeds go to the Christchurch Earthquake.

I have also noticed that every time I draw myself I look different. When I finally stop gazing into my naval and get around to writing a real, fictional graphic novel, I will pencil first and ink second. I do all of these drawings on the fly — hence, the rough edges.

Oh, and here’s some Pogues for you.

Radioactive nightmare

16/03/2011

When I googled Z for Zachariah, I discovered that it was published posthumously — Robert C O’Brien died before he wrote the last chapter and his family finished it for him. He wrote some of my favourite childhood books — The Silver Crown, and Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimm.

Apologies for the infrequency of posts lately — I am trying to finish my novel (69.2% through 2nd draft) and get ready for my trip to a literary festival in China in March. I hope to be posting more regularly soon.

Visual disturbances

11/02/2011

I can’t accurately describe the Sufjan Stevens concert, and other people’s iPhones can’t record it. But here are some photos, which might give you an idea.
