Let me be Frank – the comic books

Today I’ve been making covers for 28-page editions of my comics, which will hopefully soon be printed, details soon to be revealed. Here’s a sneak preview of them before they have type on – naked pictures!

writing005They’re kind of a best-of. Or perhaps a random selection that’s thematically-linked. The above image is for my ‘Writing’ issue. You might recognize this little beastie from this comic.

Here is my cover image for my ‘Parenting’ issue. I’ve made it look all idyllic, little betraying all the tears and puke and frustration the comics inside. But that is where our cat sleeps – in the middle of the road. We live in a cul de sac. He is remarkably reluctant to move, and the cars drive round him. I’ve also drawn the boys without helmets – we have a new helmets and scooters policy ever since Gus came off his, knocked himself out and ended up having a cat scan at Starship hospital. Always wear your helmets, kids.

parenting002I have a couple of options for my ‘Consuming’ issue. The Crown Lynn china comic….

…and the Bras and Loathing in Newmarket version.consumption004

And then, because I’m so famous-people-obsessed, I’ve got a celebrity issue. Ok, so my definition of celebrities is not the same as Woman’s Day‘s, and of course I had to include Katherine Mansfield and Morrissey. I’ve got myself looking all creepy and stalker-ish in these pictures:

All things going well, these comics will be printed in time for the Chromacon festival in May. I also compiled my Clueless story but it came to 54 pages and needed substantial editing!

In the meantime, the latest Metro is out with my comic, and on Sunday I will be down at Aotea Square looking after the comics tent between 2 and 4pm, as part of the Arts Festival family day.

Gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the finished thing. I love these water-colour washes.

Fantastic! I love the beastie, at least – I love your rendition of the beastie. I don’t love the fact that she is at my place right now, leaning over my shoulder as I try to write. I think your illustration might help me send her on her way though, so thank you!

I WANT one. Actually, I want all of them. Draw/write/print faster, will you?

Okay! But I did break a few cups. Thankfully I came across a stash in a Helensville opshop.
