Happy b[log]irthday to me

05/07/2011

I’ve been doing this for a year today! What started off as a little side-project while I was writer-in-residence at the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Centre has taken on a life of its own. There have been two writers-in-residence since – the wonderful Sue Orr (if you haven’t read From Under the Overcoat yet you should! It is very good!), and now Mark Broatch has taken up residence.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving me comments, or telling me you like it when you see me in person. It gives me such a buzz to get your feedback. And I’ve loved hearing about what books you’ve been reading. At the moment, I’m reading ‘The Crow Road’ by Iain Banks – I know three people who are avid fans of this book.

GIVE-AWAY: I have three copies of Let Me Be Frank, the book, to give away. It’s an A5 stapled 200-page ‘zine of the first five months of this blog, when I used to post every day. I will send it anywhere in the world – just leave your name in the comments and I will draw some lucky winners next Wednesday.

Love all the blog updates, and have been enjoying listening to Dead People’s Music on the radio too, which spins my mind a little as I’m reading the book at the same time!

    Yes please 🙂
I would love to have a hard copy of these wonderful comics. Would save me from spending so much time in front of the computer!

And while we’re sharing book recommendations, 2 of my favourites are Infinite Jest, and anything by Barbara Kingsolver.

Happy birthday, LMBF! I’m enjoying catching up on past posts (and have I told you how much I love your apple blog?) I do, I do, I do!
I am currently re-reading I Capture The Castle (Dodie Smith) for the zillionth time. It’s my all-time desert island read, especially in times of gloom, and while I’m not on a desert island at present, things sure have been gloomy lately.
May the next year’s worth of LMBF turn out as brilliantly as the first,
    Lucy

Happy birthday Let Me Be Frank! Thanks for the generous giveaway, I’d love to enter. Oh and book recommendations? I just read Kelly Ana Morey’s Quninie – lots of scandals, intrigue and glamourous drunken parties. It was great!

Happy Birthday Uncle Frank. I’ve never had an Uncle like you…
Today I bought The Little Book Of Saints from World – in Vulcan Lane. I noticed that they had pretty little cup cake plates with either – Mother F***** or Slag or C*** on them. Thought I should just buy a bk instead. First Saint I turned to – to help me win your Let Me Be Frank Zine was Francis Borgia – Patron Saint of Earthquake victims – so I tried again. Now it is Francis De Sales – Patron Saint of Journalists & Writers. He was an aristocrat from Savoy. Frank was an aristocrat from Takapuna – he would like this book. And I would love yours. Well done Sarah, LMBF is brill.
