Wow – that is an amazing story! I didn’t know that about J’s Dad! My favourite bit of this comic is where you write ‘here is a photo’ – which isn’t a photo at all, but a drawing of a photo – very po-mo! xx helen
Dad actually could read Braille – Trevor couldn’t. I often saw him reading a braille bible. He also used “talking books” – which all his kids enjoyed.
The jigger got him the once – there was a massive knot in the flitch (squared up block of wood – which the jigger cut into planks) which caught in the saws. Chucked him across the Mill floor and crushed his thumb.
Dad could see well at night – but his kids could hide from him by standing still and wearing neutral colours. Hmm – school uniform of the time was grey drill…..
Having said that – I watched my blind father disassemble and reassemble a washing machine – without the help of his sighted children – and it worked..
