Epilogue: I later found my keys in another compartment of my second bag. But thinking that I lost them was worthwhile — I found a book on Chapman Taylor that featured my great grandparents’ house in Karori. The author had interviewed my great aunt Anne, who died in 2001.

except that the burnett’s lived in the house for over 40 years, not 20 as the photocopy you gave us said
thanks for the copy, most nostalgic. I remember exploring the house as a boy, the bathroom had small hexagonal tiles half way up the stairs, and the built in cupboards in the bedrooms ran under the eaves from one room to the next
And the round mirror in your living room used to hang in the entrance way to the JT house in Messines Road
I also remember you could go from the kitchen, through the pantry to the dining room which coincided with the living room which came out into the hall and entered the kitchen. Al the wood and furniture was dark
